You might have set one or more of your workstations (computers that don’t host the company file) to be the server for hosting the company file, due to which QuickBooks Error Code H505 occurs.
Note: The only computer that should be your server is the one that hosts your company file in multi-user mode.

How to resolve QuickBooks Error H505?

At first, you need to disable the Host Multi-user Access option on all of your workstations where QuickBooks Error H505 is occurring. Then set the computer that hosts your computer file to be the server.
Note: Make sure your company file is closed while you follow the below-mentioned steps.

Step 1) Turn-off the Host Multi-user Access option on your workstations

  • Open QuickBooks on those workstations that are getting QuickBooks Error H505.
  • Go to the File menu and hover your cursor on the Utilities option.
  • Under Utilities, look for the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option. If it is there, choose it.
  • If you see the Hosting Multi-User Access option, don’t select it. Move on to the next workstation as this particular workstation is not causing any problem.
  • Repeat the steps mentioned above on the rest of your workstations.
After covering all the workstations, move-on to your server computer that hosts your company file.

Step 2) Turn-on the Host Multi-user Access option on your server computer

  • On your server computer, open QuickBooks.
  • Go to the File menu and select the Utilities option.
  • Look for the Hosting Multi-User Access option and select it. In case the Stop Hosting Multi-User option is highlighted, leave it as it is.
